Sink Your Teeth and Take A Big Bite!

Is that a bitten strawberry? A ladybug? Or, maybe a heart? I’ll tell you later 😉

Today, I want to talk about something important to me. With the abundance of social and dating apps out in the market, we often neglect the fact that human interaction forms the basis of every single relationship. A simple hug, smile or a conversation over a meal could be easily taken for granted today.

And that is why I would like to introduce you guys to this new social app called "Bite"!

I don't really like using dating apps mainly because they can often appear to be very sleazy as people start to 'hook up' with one another. So, when I was first introduced to Bite, I was honestly quite skeptical about it as well. It seems like just another new dating app that is trying to break into the market. BUT NO, I was proven wrong!

What I really love about Bite is that it offers you the convenience of online dating, and helps to arrange your meal with your potential date as well! It establishes the grounds of making genuine connections by encouraging people to start off knowing one another through a classic date over some food.

Now, let me show you the easiest, and my favourite, way to use Bite!

1. Setting Up Your Profile

As with any other social or dating apps, you will definitely need to set up your own profile first. Do try to include as many information about yourself as possible. They have simple options such as "Your Interests", where you may pick options like 'Cafe Hopping', 'Stargazing' and even 'Claw Machines'! So cute right?! Haha.

Bite is also not discriminatory as you are open to the option of choosing the partners that you're interested in (that means you may choose someone of the same sex as well).

It functions a little like Facebook as well, because it allows you to state things like your education background, job information and religion. What makes it extra special is the fact that it allows you to set your dietary preferences and preferred meet-up location, so that it makes it easier for potential dates to ask you out!

2. Start Looking Out For Dining Choices

Personally, I find Bite’s Restaurant Feed to be the anchor of the whole app. At least, it was the function that drew me to start exploring it!

If you tap on the switch icon in the top left, you’ll see that Bite recommends a variety of restaurants for you to have your date. When I say a variety, I really mean a big variety that ranges from cafes, to Italian restaurants and even bars to chill at. All you have to do, is to swipe your finger through the choices and decide on one by tapping the Broadcast button. As simple as that!

For a coffee lover like myself, I would definitely go for cafes! And, they even have popular choices such as The Lokal, Compound Coffee Co. and A Poke Theory. There is definitely a choice for everyone out there based on your tastes and budget.

3. Start Broadcasting

This, my lovelies, is another unique function of Bite. Once you have decided on the dining location, you may start broadcasting and find a match that would be your date!

When you start a broadcast, you are basically providing the following information to your fellow Bite users:

- Choice of restaurant
- Price Range per pax
- Payment

- Date & Time for meet up

What do I meant by payment?

Basically, it is to pre-empt others if the meal would be 'My Treat', 'Your Treat' or 'Split Bill'. Of course, if you are a true gentleman, I would highly suggest you to treat your date to the first meal that you're having together. And if you are a lady, you may choose 'Split Bill' if you are afraid of being labelled as materialistic and just cross your fingers on that day, hoping that he would be paying for your meal haha.

This is great as it allows people to state upfront about sensitive issues such as payments for meals.

After setting the date and time, your broadcast is good to go! All you have to do after your broadcast goes live, is to wait for someone to respond to it. That simple!

One issue with a lot of other dating apps is that people tend to cast a wide net in the hope of having higher chances of getting a response. But for Bite, spamming scenarios would not take place as all users are given 10 hearts, which acts like currency within the app. Users will use up one heart whenever they broadcast or respond to other users’ bites. With every 20 minutes, 1 heart would be refilled.

If you are not patient enough to wait, you may refill your hearts using in-app coins!

You get 300 coins when you sign up, and these can be used to exclusively invite someone you really like out!

What makes Bite a different dating and social app is that fact that it encourages people to forge genuine connections with one another. And what better way is there, but through food? If you think about it, it kind of "forces" people to meet up at a dining location, sit down, have a heart to heart conversation over a meal, before deciding if they are suitable for one another.

I am sure this beats the "Do you want to come to my house?" scenario, which could be very dangerous especially for the ladies out there.

Most importantly, it is very easy to use and fuss-free! So far, the people that I’ve interacted with through Bite have been very friendly and they are not creepy at all. In fact, I find them to be slightly shy, which makes me realise that this platform could be a very good avenue for those shy-natured people to look out for friends to hang out with.

Well, nobody mentioned that you have to be looking for a date on Bite right? It is after all about forging genuine connections!

That being said, there are definitely some areas that Bite may improve on to make the experience a much better one for users. The app is still a little buggy, so sometimes I can’t Broadcast for unknown reasons. And, it’s bothersome to keep logging in and out of the app to refresh it.

Also, being a new social app in the market, there weren’t that many users when I signed up, and the profiles could get repetitive after some time. This is the reason why YOU guys should join in to explore the app and make it the next big social app in Singapore!

If you would like to find out more about Bite, you may drop me a personal message on Instagram and I will answer to the best of my ability! Alternatively, follow the Bite folks on Facebook at and on Instagram at @bite.official! They are constantly spreading love around the city, so do keep your eyes big big!

So, are you ready to take a bite today? Just sink your teeth into it, I would say!
